Scout Programs

These programs are designed to help your Girl Scout, Scouts BSA, or Cub Scout earn merit badges, meet amazing animals, and learn new facts at the Virginia Zoo!

Virtual Scout Workshop Information

Sign up your Girl Scout, Scouts BSA, or Cub Scout for a Virtual Scout Badge Workshop today! These programs are self-paced, where assignments can be completed throughout one month. At the end of the month, there will be a live, virtual meeting with all participants and at least two Education staff members PLUS a curious critter related to the theme! This meeting will be a time to share what the participant has learned and also be able to talk with others! Each participant will receive a certificate after completing the program, or letter identifying the remaining requirements needed to complete the badge. The actual badge/patch is not included. Follow guidelines from your organization in receiving credit for the activities completed. Check back each month for a different badge!

Scouts BSA: Reptile and Amphibian Study Merit Badge

Join fellow scouts and our experienced instructors as we investigate the remarkable world of reptiles and amphibians! During this self-guided program, you will meet amazing animals from across the globe, including local species found throughout the United States! All requirements for this badge will be met by completing this workshop. Some requirements may take longer than a month to complete, but a staff member will ensure that your child has the opportunity to complete each requirement. Actual badge/patch is not included.

When: The Virtual Classroom is open from November 1st to December 6th, 2020 with a live Zoom meeting on December 5th, from 2pm-3pm. Aspects of the classroom will remain available until March 1st, 2021 for those completing requirement 8b.

If your scout is unable to attend the live Zoom session, then please let us know. We will work with you and your scout to ensure that they have an opportunity to complete any badge requirements covered during the live session.

Price: $10/participant for Members, $15/participant for Non-Members

Materials: Access to Google Classroom and Zoom, plus household materials such as construction paper, glue, scissors, crayons/colored pencils/markers. If you do not have access to these items, please contact the Education Department at vazoo.education@norfolk.gov.
